Double Incalmo Cylinder

Double Incalmo Cylinder
8.5″ x 4.25″ x 4.25″
artist:  Patrick Kerry Brown

This cylinder form is made by the Venetian Incalmo process.  Three “cups” were made to the exact same size and each was joined with the others while hot.  The process is very interesting to watch as one glassmaker delivers the cup on a solid pipe to the gaffer who has their cup on a blowpipe.  The gaffer starts with the medium blue cup, the assistant then picks up and brings the orange cup.  That gets attached, sealed, and shaped and then the assistant brings the amethyst cup for the second incalmo.  After all the cups are joined the piece is shaped and blown into its final form.
