Amber Tear is a piece that was made by our glassblowing team under the tutelage of a visiting artist. This was Patrick’s first cross-axis piece.
Cane is a color application where a thin rod of glass is made from various glass rods of different colors to form a design. Cane ranges from simple to complex. A simple cane is basically a cylinder of colored glass coated with clear glass. There is also a cased cane where the clear is coated with color. Then with a complex cane, there are multiple designs, really only limited by the creator’s skill and imagination.
X-axis pieces are made when a small hole is made in the side of the piece to rotate the design from vertical to horizontal. The piece is transferred from one pipe to a new blowpipe which is attached to the hole and then the piece is shaped and formed from there to its final product.
